We are talking about an all-knowing being that exists outside of space and time; not understanding is usually a give-in when it comes to the big picture. You won't always understand everything right away it takes time and effort to understand.
Thankfully we have a forgiving god. I pray every night so I personally would include it in my prayer to ask if he would help me understand it. You could do that as well or you could find one of the bibles that has commentary from other pastures and priests. I believe some churches have groups for helping as well. Hope this helps!
By the word of God, I presume the Bible. The bible is so incredibly hard to understand that theologians and philosophers debate even to this day its true meanings. I seriously doubt God expects you to understand it all. He only expects you to live according to his will and accepting Christ as your personal savior from what you wrote, Im presuming you have done that).
Sounds like you are a new Christian.you have absolutely nothing to worry about. All the answers or almost all answers are in the bible. i agree with Oove, you need a little help with all this new knowledge. Not understanding is not wrong.be patient and the answers will come to you.Worrying will only hinder gods spirit trying to get through to you.Stop worrying.lol
It's very important to read God's Word. However, as humans, we interpret things differently and can't understand things in the Bible. I think you should pray about gaining an understanding of the Bible and then ask another Christian, whom you trust and believe to be wise and experienced, about what a passage means or just general Biblical questions.
I would ask, how do you know if you are saved if you don't understand. There are so many misconceptions about salvation. Understanding would acknowledge there that there is no sinners prayer or just accepting Jesus to obtain salvation.
At the risk of repeating answers above (except Anthony somewhere...out there), I would say that to become a Christian is not a deep intellectual process. If that were the case, only the so-called "smart people" would be saved and that would not even seem fair for people who are less able to understand deep things. To become a Christian, you need to understand some basic things, that there is God who is eternal, and creator of all. You need to recognize that God is Holy. You need to understand that you are a sinner and that sin separates you from a Holy God. You need to understand what God has done through his Grace and Mercy and not by your qualifications of good works, that he saved you through the blood and atonement of Jesus Christ. These are not that hard to understand. We know there is God because we just have to look around. We know we are sinners because we just have to look inside our own heart. Once we accept the offer of God as a free gift, then God gives us a new nature and we want to know more about God and we study and learn, and he helps us. So don't get discouraged. Just keep going.
