If someone sends a text message on a phone and shoots the phone apart into pieces, will the message send? Is it relying on phone/satellite?

If you had received a message indicating that the massage was send, then the recipient of the message will receive it. If not then it is possible that it will not get to its recipient.

Depends on if it said message sent or not. If it did say message sent it was sent. Now if you destroy the phone obviously you wouldn't get a reply to who you were sending it to.
