Some really can't spell, but most can, but this is ask and the most important thing is to get your message across. You will not be graded on this and it is not all that important. So folks won't be putting forth a lot of effort.

Lack of punctuation, text talk, no capitalization, improper use of words, etc. are the signs of many of the youth today. Fill out a job or college application like that and you will never get a job or further your education.
I don't understand it either. I guess many people just don't care if people take them seriously. Whenever I see multiple spelling errors or terrible grammar, I assume the person who wrote it is a small child, a teen who thinks it's cool to use text speak, or a person with a lack of intelligence or education. I usually just don't read what they say.

They are either under educated or they are lazy and sometimes a combination of both. I think bluesun makes a good point but I would reverse it and say, some can, but most really can't spell. It's a shame because they will go into the work force with resumes that won't get them an interview and they won't even know why. Those that get a job, will wonder why they are passed over for promotions and they will blame management. This is the down side of modern technology. Newton's third law in action.
This is a good point. I don't understand why someone wouldn't just use their automatic spellcheck either.
