I have many ways of clearing my mind. And it always depends on how I'm feeling at the time. One way I calm down my mind is to meditate, and one way is by repeating a mantra ( I have a few favorites). It took me months before I could totally void my mind of thoughts. It's not easy. I started simple, by repeating " OM," oooooommmm. It purifies our body,mind,& SOUL. Then as I got better I added more. " om mani padme hum." Then after meditating and clearing my mind. I get ready for bed. Say my nightly prayers and then go to sleep. Same ritual every night. You can shut your thoughts down at night so that you can sleep easier by writing down all your worries in your diary or a book. If they are good thoughts so no need 4 shutting down but if they are bad so change them to good thoughts. Like think of good memories from past. Or if you are sad and want to shut down that sad thoughts then cry out loud, you will feel better.
The only way that I can shut my mind down is by making up stories in my mind. Right now I'm living on a man made planet traveling through space in the year 4562 lol! I also gave myself semi super powers because of a genetic mutation! It works for me and usually I can't wait to go to bed to continue my awesome story!! I tried working out and stuff but then all I did was think about my workout! I hope someone's answer helps though.
I try to be completely worn out by the time I get in bed, so that I fall asleep within ten minutes of lying down. So just try to be active during the day, or work out a few hours before bed time? Or, if it's one of those nights where I really just can't sleep, I take a few Meletonin (I think that's how you spell it), which are natural sleep aids.
