An orange phone icon appeared in the status bar or my iPhone and won't go away. What is it and how do I remove it?

I tried rebooting but it didn't help. it just appeared last night and will not go away. It is a 3GS with the newest iOS.

If it looks like an airplane in the top left corner then you are in airplane mode...to turn it off go to your settings and switch the airplane mode switch to off....hope this helps!!!

Thanks, but unfortunately no. It looks like a phone receiver in the right corner near the battery.
