What is snot and where does it come from?

So me and my boyfriend were laying in bed last night and I wondered to him what snot is made out of, and where does it come from?
It seems like slimy brain juice or something haha.

Why is it triggered when you cry and have a cold? What is made out of and where is it produced?

well your nose has a "filter" like thig that catches germs and things your not supposed to breath in and i think it turn into snot...

oh i think I know this one, when you cry you have some run-off tears that go down your nose, so you're actually crying from your nose too hahaha...uhh..that was kind of gross...i'm sorry...

It is mucus, it is meant to catch germs and keep them out of your lungs.

It catches germs to keep them getting into your body. Or if you have allergies then your nose runs because it thinks it's getting rid of irritants:( I'm allergic to mold spores.
