Why did my hair turn orange when i dyed it?

I have natural dirty blonde hair color, and was not happy with it. I then got my hair highlighted at home because my mom is a hairdresser. Once the highlights started to grow out, I convinced my mother to let me dye it blonde. She picked up a golden blonde color from our local Sally's store. It ended up turning strawberry blond at the top, and I didn't like it, so two days later, I wanted my hair brown. She got another color from sally's, neutral light brown. It turned extremely red, so she went to Stop and Shop and got a semi permanent dark brown. It ended up looking pretty good, but still orange. It was supposed to get rid of the orange. Now, the semi permanent dye is washing out, and I want the orange gone, and want to dye it completely and permanently brown. HELP!

The best thing to do at this point is go to a professional salon and ask them to bail you out. You have some natural red pigment in your hair and that is why it turned red. Your other options are dye it again with something really dark, or cut it short and/or start from scratch. It will be easier to cover this up right now than it will be to make it an attractive lighter color. You can dye your hair the color you want, but you need t o have the right product and use it exactly how the directions say. You probably left it on too long or not long enough and after so many different products and treatments it is going to get harder to make it right. Good luck.

Thank you! But do you know any certain toners or products I can use to get it out?

Like I said, the only option left if you hate the orange and want to try again at home is dye it all something dark. Use the experience to engage people in conversation and smile and laugh about it. You need not stress about this. I remember in high school a guy from my neighborhood let the girls in the neighborhood dye his hair blond at a party and he got the same carrot results as you did. He sort of freaked about it a little and got some teasing, but in the big picture your hair color does not matter. Turn this into a positive.

I'll try! Some of my friends say they like it, but I don't!

Your hair turned orange because not all the red pigment in your hair was coloured or you left the colour on your hair for too long which can be dangerous for your skull. It is important to read the instructions on the bleaching agent, to avoid damage as well as the undesired colour. You can try a temporary toner or find a dye with a bit of violet and adapt repair treatment measures. You can also seek advice from another professional stylist to help solve the hair drama and reduce the risk involved in doing it yourself.
