How do you know when you need surgery for a torn meniscus?

I went to the doctor because me knee was swollen and felt like it was going to clasp and they said I might have a torn meniscus so the need to do a MRI to see about it but I have several things to do so they said that it would take longer to heal because mine is really bad so they said I might have to get surgery so does anyone know if I need to and how it hurts and is still swollen and has been for like a week btw I'm 13

I think that you will need to trust the doctor with this, since it is his profession, and so he probably knows what he is talking about. Such surgeries do not hurt since there are drugs that you are given to put you to rest and to numb your pain.

Thanks and she told me that If I did do the surgery that I would be put to sleep for a minimum of 3 hrs and then I would be on crutches for about a month
