How can I reduce the swelling and pain of my finger?

I hurt my finger the other day by playing basketball. It is all swollen and puffy in the middle of my middle finger. It also has a huge bluish-purple bruise where you bend your finger at. It hurts when I bend it half-way. I can't bend it all the way, it hurts too much. So how can I reduce the pain and swelling?

Report as

Alleve or Ibuprofen

and

Ice, 20 minutes on, then off for a while then come back to it.

Yah, I took some medicine called Naproxen.
My mom said that would help.

I'm in school, I got an ice pack.
School nurse called me down, and now I have a home made splint on it. x3

Those are the right steps. Naproxen is Alleve... it is the best in my opinion.

i agree, definitely put ice on it and if it doesnt go down in a day, go to the hospital. it might be broken.

sounds like you jammed your finger, very common in basketball, hamath has the correct solotion, om 99% sure its not broken most people wont be able to bend their finger even a little if its broken.
