There are actually a few ways you can play Augusta National without being a member or being invited by one. Check out this very helpful post on "How to Play Augusta National without a Member Connection" http://www.golfvacationinsider.com/?p=5873
Augusta National Golf Course, home of the Masters, is a private and exclusive golf club. You have to be a member or be a guest of a member to play on the course, unless, of course, you're a professional golfer and receive an invitation or qualify by winning tournaments on the PGA Tour.
If you were fortunate enough to get to volunteer to help out the week of the masters , such as holding the ropes on the fairway crossings, trash pick up etc, all of which is done by volunteers.....you are invited to come back usually in July and allowed to play the course for yourself........last time I asked the waiting period to become a volunteer is about 10 years....
Actually, I've been a deputy in Richmond County for 16 years and I've played the National 4 times. If you're a volunteer; yes the wait if a very long one. But Richmond County Deputies have a certain amount of slots they get for providing security and traffic control. They usually let us play in mid to late May, not July. The course is usually closed after May. So, if you eventually want to play the National, join the SO.
