According to Websters, a Rube Goldberg Machine is a comically involved, complicated invention, laboriously contrived to perform a simple operation. Reuben Goldberg was an American cartoonist, sculptor, engineer, and inventor. His most popular works are a series of cartoons in which he sketched a contraption involving many parts such as pulleys, levers, weighted items, and gravitational pull to result in what would be a very simple process to begin with. One example would be a device worn on the head that when activated would eventually use a napkin to wipe ones mouth. The sole intent of these gadgets is to amuse.
