Can a diamond be shattered by a hammer blow?

I know it's difficult to cut a diamond, but can a hammer shatter one?

Report as

It is very difficult for Diamond to be shuttered by a hammer blow. This is because Diamond has strong covalent bonds that hold its atoms together. For this reason, Diamond is mainly used on the edges of drills used to break through hard rocks.

Only if the diamond has an impurity or fracture, even then the hammer might get damaged.

No, diamond can only be cut or destroyed by something as hard as itself, and the only thing as hard as itself is another diamond, unless the diamond is already cracked or the diamond is actually made of glass.

Diamonds are cut by hitting them at precise angles to form the facets. Although they are hard, they are brittle if hit along a crystal plane. Thus, a hammer can shatter a diamond.
