Why are redheads called gingers? o.o

Redheads are called gingers because they are thought to be very temperamental. It was said that people with red hair had an easy anger. In this case, the ginger is shortened from gingerism which is a term that referred to people with such ill-tempers.

They are called gingers because first their hair is red and ginger is yada yada. They also have short tempers
