Breast cancer, like all other cancers, comes up when normal cells change so that they grow in an uncontrolled way. This uncontrolled growth causes a tumor to form. Punching and pinching will not cause this process to start.
What if you already had breast cancer went through radiation and are on the way to recover .Then you get hit in the breast....then what??? What Dr would I go to for treatment my gyn, my general Dr my surgeon who???
This is a very old myth which has been disproved by recent discoveries about the process of cancer and how it develops. What might result from a traumatic tissue injury to the breast is a condition called traumatic fat necrosis. It appears a long time after the original injury or may develop spontaneously in women with very large breasts. It is characterized by painless benign lumps and sometimes a red, bruised appearance on the breast. After researching this issue, I strongly suspect that this condition may have been misdiagnosed by 19th century and early 20th century doctors as cancer, especially in women who declined a biopsy or fluid draw. Or women with the condition may have understandably assumed it to be cancer. I believe that is part of the origin of this particular, long-lasting myth, which I myself heard repeated in the 1960s and 1970s.
