Why do my shirts shrink when I wash them? What can I do to prevent them from shrinking?

I try to air dry them instead of putting them in the dryer but they still shrink after a few washes.

If you wash cotton the rule of thumb is that it will always shrink one size. Look for clothes that have only a percentage of cotton combined with something else ( like spandex or acrylic). Do not wash in warm or hot water only cold. Use the air dry function on drier instead of air drying.
