It'a worth a phone call to your attorney. That's an invasion of privacy!!! People who will do things like that scare me. You need some good legal advice regarding how to prevent such. My best wishes. He sounds like a control freak and a jerk.

Colorado is a "one-party" consent state, which means that as long as one person being recorded consents to being recorded, then it is legal. However, in this case, it was probably illegal, as no one in your house consented to be recorded.
Was your son aware of the device? Not sure if that would make any difference or not, since he's under 18.

It's probably not illegal, but it's very worrisome. I would check with a lawyer to see what you can do about it, if anything. I do know that there are products you can buy that scan your car, his lunch, clothing, etc. for electronics--I suggest you get one and check your car carefully on a regular basis to make sure he hasn't put some kind of GPS tracking device on, or under, it. Also check inside your car for voice-activated recording devices, etc. Good luck to you!
I would think not because technically he didnt actually plant it. I would suggest you just let your local police know about it because this sounds like a guy subject to stalking and potential violence. Good luck.
