Why isn't there any thing being done about the way out of line gas prices. We as Americans are getting so screwed on a daily basis!

Because the gas company's can do what ever they want. They know that people need their gas to do their needs daily and they exploit that. If we had it their way we would get rid of all other sources of energy. Even now they are paying off, bribing, or threatening company's that offer a better source of energy than gas. Why is it you never hear about any new energy beak throughs or renewable on the news. Plus the revolutions that are happening in the middle east are also raiseing the prices.

It has to do with a lot of things. First, the companies that set the prices are greedy. Next, there is unrest in the middle east which is a huge source of gas for the world. Now, while the US is actually exporting it because we have a surplus, the price we get is the same price that other countries get. The price is universal (obviously it's different for each country since you don't use the same exact currency).

While I don't drive, I know that prices aren't just going to go up at the pump. Businesses end up having to charge more because they have to pay more for the gas.

Look on the bright side--If you are one of those folks, who are radical enviromentalists, then you should be LOVING the fact that gas prices are going up. Because that means all those mean, nasty, polluting, "road hogging", SUVs and pick up trucks will become obsolete or the people driving them, because they cannot afford a Tesla or even a newer cheaper electric car, will be outcasts in society. So then you can drive past them in your Prius or Smart Car and flip them off or make faces at them. (Or just maintain that smug look on your face.)

Flipping them off would probably be a little harsh.

To Odog: Yeah, you're probably right, just saying though.

I have given my opinion on this before, but I feel that those in a position to do something are profiting too much from it to do so. The politicians are riding around on taxpayers' money, not their own.The majority also have their hands in some type of oil stocks, also.

And that is good or bad?

People often seem to have this perception that their government can effect the price of gas. And to a limited extent they can. But it is a global market. There are many countries such as India and China which are industrializing very quickly. People are getting wealthier and buying more cars. The more cars on the road globally the more gas costs. It is a limited resource. Any politician who claims they can drastically lower the price of gas is lying.

Because we do not do boycotts any more!

You know, that is actually not a bad idea, but it probably will not happen unless gas hits $6 a gal in the next two years or sooner.

In the 70's we all stopped buying gas and used bicycles, skates, skate boards, scooters, walked, rode with a friend and did everything we could to boycott the gasoline companies. This was during a time when gas was being rationed and the prices were ridiculously high. Oddly enough, after the boycott had gone on for a few months, the gasoline prices suddenly went down and they stopped the rationing! : D

Actually, we pay LESS for gasoline than people in Europe and most of Asia. We just have longer distances to drive.
And the US government gives "corporate welfare" in the form of massive subsidies to oil companies that are earning record high profits. Why? Because the oil companies "donate" millions to the politicians' re-election funds. One of the worst offenders is Senator Inhofe from Oklahoma, who has been called "the senator from ExxonMobil." BTW, this also explains why he keeps denying that global warming exists.
Yes indeed, we Americans have the best politicians that money can buy!

And most of them are members of the Democratic Peoples Party.

Wrong. Inhofe is a Republican, and so are most of the fossil fuel money takers. Democrats tend to be bought by Wall Street and the entertainment industry.

The Dear Leader of the Democratic Peoples Party has publicly stated that he wants the price of energy, not just gasoline, to double. The plan is to make it so costly that we have no choice but to buy into the "green energy" scam. Welcome to Socialism.

What does that have to do with socialism?

Because the current administration has given the EPA the power to put too many ridiculous guidelines on the oil companies. Not enough drilling plus refinery cost increases plus department of energy head that wants gas to be 10 bucks a gallon equals higher gas prices. Once Obamas gone, if we can get the house and senate too for 4 years we'll get some relief. Otherwise ... Greece.... Here we come.
