Well even you won't believe this; hot dogs! Use a 1/2 inch long piece of hot dog, put you a regular hook and weight on your line, put the hook easily through the side of it and come out the other side and turn your hook so the tip is just touching the hot dog and a hungry bass WILL eat off the bottom when they are real hungry in the heat of the day. If you put the hook deep into the hot dog it WILL come off the hook when you cast. You can cast real far in the heat and get the big ones because they are down deep avoiding the heat.
We catch 4 to 6 pounders all the time but, only off the bottom. I know, it does sound impossible but, it works.
I think most so called attractants are a scam . You need to get to know your fish . Bass are ambush predators . They attack most times from below and behind . Throw baits that mimic the bait fish wherever you are at . And throw into cover . Remember that Bass sit in cover and wait for prey . Throw lots and change your speed often .
