Tenant rights- What can I do If I suspect my eletricity is being tampered/stolen?

What do I do??I had a fire in my rental, due to faulty wireing.I informed the manager and nothing was ever done. I fear it might catch fire again. Not only that I think that someone has tapped into my eletricity. My bills are to high for a 2br apartment.I asked the eletric co. for a history audit and its plain to see that the bills are way to high. and on my most recent bill, the lowest bill .The meter number is not the same number it was on all the other bills ive had since ive moved here. Can someone please help me.What do I do?

We are landlords. You've got a Problem. You don't state if the landlord Repaired that faulty wiring! If he didn't repair it, Do this-Write or Type out a Notice to him, being sure to Date and Sign the paper.Address it To him. Tell him that he must "Effect a Remedy" as soon as possible at apartment # so-and-so, and address # so-and so.Tell him he has 14 days to have this wiring re-worked.Be certain to make 3 Copies of this request.Number All of them at the bottom left of the page.Copy 1...Copy 2. And so on. Give him Copy 3.be sure you mention the Fire and it's supposed Cause in your letter. Sign it! I would notify the Better Business Bureau, the electric company, and the fire department. Also, give them any Extra copies of your letter to him.Be prepared to vacate the premises if he fails to act within those 14 days. Remember, the property is not yours. He has to repair it,Not you.WJ.

In my view, if you have talked to the manager and they are not doing anything about it; try and get a hold of the landlord. You can also consult the local authorities concerned with housing for advise on the necessary procedures to follow in order to ensure there is safety in your home.

You can, and should, call the electric company to come out and check your meter. Explain the issues you have and ask them to fix it. If someone has tampered with your meter, the electric company wants to know about it so they can get it straightened out. Then they will pursue whoever tampered with your meter for theft of service.

If you are worried about a fire, you can call the fire department and ask them to make an assessment and see what they say. If they won't help, call an electrician.
