Try drinking a glass of warm milk without alcohol or caffeine and toss a few crackers. Then, close your eyes and take deep breaths through your nose only. Repeat this while listening to your breathing and you should fall asleep in no time.
Try room darkening shades and an oscillating fan. If the weather is cool the fan can be pointed towards the ceiling. The fan provides "white noise", which cancels out the "sharp noises" that keep us awake. It works for me!
