What are some differences between Islam and Christianity?

My friend is Islam and I want to know some differences in religion between her and me.

Though there are theological and philosophical similarities, I would say the most significant differences are what scriptures they accept as being authoritative as well as how they see the person of Jesus....Muslims don't believe Jesus was crucified nor that he was raised from the dead, nor that his essence was divine/God (or at least in the same way Christians do). Muslims see Jesus as being only a prophet and venerate and respect him in that way. Christians traditionally do not accept Mohammed as a "true" prophet of God.
Having said all that, the differences you have with your friend may have little to do with theology if one or neither of you really know what you believe for yourselves. ;)

Where does it say that?

I dont hate Islams. Where did you get that from?
Report as
It doesn't. But there are plenty of instances of genocide that seem to be commanded by God for not being Jewish. You have to read the context to see what the texts are actually saying, not what opponents make it want to say or what Christians and Jews often ignore rather than deep deep to reinterpret.

Exodus 31:15. For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.
Report as
The Sabbath was never Sunday.

The biggest difference (contrary to the politically correct line) is the GOD they worship.

Which one is that?

I don't follow the question.

I know they worship God Almighty, known as El Shaddai in Hebrew or Allah in Arabic. In revealing Self to Moses, YHWH said He was formerly known as Allah (El Shaddai) to the fathers of Judaism, but that He was the same God. (Ex 3) Jesus, assuming traditional Christianity, claimed to be this same YHWH. (John 8). So my question is, if you do not worship El Shaddai, who is it that you disagree with? Moses or Jesus? That YHWH is not El Shaddai? Or that Jesus was not YHWH?
Report as
Yeah, exactly. Why do you insist on propagating this? You are either I'll informed or lying.
Report as
My source of information is the Torah, written in Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, and English. Of course my reference to Jesus comes from the Greek New Testament book of John. I only insist on propogating truth as I perceive it and correcting mistruth when it is whispered in appealing means that say our way can be better than God's way. If I have been ill informed, you'll have to take that up with the writers of the Bible.
Report as
Okay you go with that.

The primary difference is that they believe Jesus was a Prophet, even the Messiah for the Jews, but not God. They believe, as Jews do, that God is One, and only One, not Three-in-One. As Christians and Jews, they trace their faith back to Abraham and worship God Almighty (Allah in Arabic, El Shaddai in Hebrew). They believe that the people kept getting the message of the story wrong and that God kept sending prophets to correct them. Whereas Christians traditionally believe the last Prophet was Jesus as God Incarnate, Muslims believe God's last Prophet was Muhammed.

jk,
What Christians do you talk to that think that Jesus was the last prophet?
Obviously they don't read/believe God's Word :
Acts 21:10; 11:27; 13:1; 15:32; 21:9,10; 1John 4:1; (1 Cor. 14:32,37; 1 Timothy 4:14 ), etc. These passages clearly show that at least for a few years after Jesus left this earth that there were prophets.

When I say traditionally, I am making broad generalizations, usually regarding mainstream Protestantism. When I say Jesus was the last Prophet, I am referring to the roles of those who critiqued Israel and called her back to God. Jesus was the last of those and ushered in the Apostolic Age (those sent out of Israel inyo the world). I am not suggesting the role of prophet ceased to exist but rather that the Age of Prophets had ended culminating in God speaking for Self according to mainstream Protestantism.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification :)

There are over 100 verses on the Quran saying that infidels are to be killed, in some places even in very gruesome ways.

Thanks! And yes I watched a video about how muslim islams can be just like us. It was only a certain amount of people that were cruel and did 9/11. Only those Muslims were mean.

Lior, how many are there in the Tanakh?

I may have been lied to about muslim people. But when I hear there is a bridge out ahead on a unfamiliar road I will take a defensive posture till I see for myself that everything is OK. So far I have not seen anything to trust in muslims. They begged for aid to fight Russia, then produced fish food Laden to use the same weapons on us. Now they want to build a mosque 3 blocks from ground zero in NYC.

There are lots of differences. Outside the normally recounted ones (different view of what is authoritative as far as being scripture, the name of God, views of whether Jesus is the promised Jewish Messiah, etc.) there are customs/traditions that vary - Ramadan, Hanakuh, Easter, as well as methods/modes of worship, and even times of worship.

What's Islam's name for God? I was only familiar with the title Allah (Arabic for God or God Almighty) and the personification of the Morning Star.
Report as
Aye, they say Allah, and some will with political correctness say that it is the same God as Jehovah, but in discussions with some, I have found that they will not exactly agree that He is the one referred to in the Bible (most notably not agreeing that He is the God of Abraham and Issac and Jacob - Jews, or God the Father and Son and Spirit - Christians)
Report as
That is true. They believe Isaac and most others deviated from the God of Abraham and distorted God's identity, and they feel that true Prophets would not be displayed as fallen humans and thus the sin of the Prophets in the Bible must be an addition. I believe that Isaac and so on did distort God's identity, as we all do, and that the sin of the Prophets is an attestation that no human (except possibly Abel and Enoch) was fully righteous, and the role of the Prophet was to be called from amongst and calm out to the common man.

Call* out to... Not calm.

Following your logic dkks, Adonai and Jehovah would also be two different person because the Jews Jesus do not believe that Adonai begot a son.
