You can eat absolutely anything you want. It may not be in keeping with your diet, but there is nothing against it. Besides, there are literally thousands of types of diets. How are we supposed to know what is and is not prescribed by your particular diet. Is it a weight-loss, carb, protein, vegan, vegetarian, diabetic, etc...

A diet is the food you are putting in your body. Some people have a healthy diet and some people do not. The question to ask is, are Hotdogs part of a healthy diet? The can be, in moderation. I like Turkey dogs...less fat and cholesterol.
I know that on the Atkins diet which cuts carbs and promotes protein that hot dogs are ok. I work in a shop that sells Nathan's all beef hot dogs and they contain no sugar. I make mine into a scrambled dog and leave off the bun and just have the dog and the toppings. Good Luck!
There're all kinds of hot dogs and all kinds of diets. Some dogs are all beef; some a mix of beef and pork; turkey dogs; vegi dogs and vegan ones too. The beef and pork ones aren't made with weird mystery meat as popular culture claims, but the can be full of fat and very high in sodium.
Always look at the nutrition label on all the foods you buy. Choose the dogs with the lowest number of calories from fat and the ones with the lowest sodium content. Hotdogs may not be on your diet, but at least you can now buy the healthiest one when you do eat them.
If you're eating out, many restaurants have a nutritional information sheet that is depress from the menu. You have to ask your server to bring it. A few places are starting to put the number of calories a dish has right on the menu (IHOP is one). When you're on a diet, you often run into problems sticking to it when you're away from home. The best you can do for yourself is to always make the healthiest choice.
The type of a diet that one is on usually dictates what that person can eat or not eat when on diet. There are some diets which aim to increase ones weight and some which are to reduce your weight. It is advisable to know which kind of a diet you are on so as to know what and how much to eat.
