The reasons most dog foods smell like dog is because the fillers & junk in them are too rough on their systems, & affect the dog's smell from the inside out. Go to the website ktk9.com. She has lots if great advice on everything dog & cat related, including what to feed your pet to help with digestive issues. She generally recommends NutriSource & Natural Planet Organics & Pure Vita dog foods.

I use Kibbles and bits for my dorkie and then beneful for my two beagles. They have no problems and my little dorkie is very picky but loves that food.

We use taste of the wild, and our feed store has an "open bag guarantee" so we can return it if the dogs hate it.
For a while we tried a raw diet. Our dogs loved it. 10% organ 10% bone and 80% meat.

We often crack an egg over their food. It's excellent for their coats, and usually dogs like the smell.

A dog as more smell sense than taste sense so u really should find something that " smells more" dogs have far fewer taste buds than we do so they will smell their food and if it doesn't smell appetizing to them they prolly won't eat it, if u don't want to keep changing his food add some canned food of the same brand to the kibble, the canned food has more of a scent and will be more appetizing to the dog as well as increase the water intake, ideally u only need a table spoon or two to make this work, , if u really want to change his food go with a natural dog food as they are made with more meats than ur standard grocery brands, some brands include solid gold, innova, wellness, natural balance, blue buffalo, while each of these brands have similar dietary qualities each ad their own specific features. natural balance is considered an allergy formula it is grain free and have a limited amount of ingredients to help decipher what the dog is allergic too. Blue buffalo has life source bits which is the portion of ingredients that would normally loose their vitamins and mineral during cooking ( sorta like carrots and veggies do when we cook em) and cooks them at a lower temp and reintroduces them prior to packaging to insure the fullest of vitamins and minerals are retained. There are sooooo many options out there, u should stop in ur local Petco and speak with one of our certified nutrition specialists to learn more and to find a food that ur dog will love to eat , we also offer a guarantee on all foods too so if he doesn't like it bring it back to try something else!! Just hold on to ur receipt
