Going to the gym for the first time can definitely be the reason that your body hurts. Your muscles are not used to the movements and you may have strained some of them. You should always do some stretching before you start to exercise and when you are finished. I would skip a few days and when you return to the gym you should start out slow and continue to add to your routine.

Yes, the pain could be from overdoing on your first workout, or it could be from injury. Normally, stretching before starting exercise (expecially before a warnup) IS NOT recommended. The warmup mentioned by fuegodncr IS important to prevent tearing or injuries to the joints when doing any type activity.. Evaluate where you hurt-- is it in the muscles or in the joints? If in the muscles, you probably don't need to worry about it. Bucs advice about skipping a few days and starting out more slowly is good advice for muscle soreness. If it is in the joints---shoulders, knees, elbows---you need some good professional advice to prevent serious injury.
