When taking prescription sleeping pills (my experiences are with Ambien) does one get the sudden urge to eat right before falling asleep?

You know this is going to haunt you for the rest of your life, but I have to tell you, you are one of the people that eats before going to bed. I am also. It makes you sleepy, and is a sort of natural sleep inducer. I think you need to trace your habits before Ambien, and see that you were eating before you slept.

It's been about a year since I've taken Ambien. I still snack before bed, I know I always have. BUT with the Ambien, it's different...I'd want a full blown meal, I'd feel starving, like I hadn't eaten in a week! My normal snacking habits without Ambien were out of either boredom or habit or both, but I wasn't actually hungry.

Ambien has a number of side effects. I have heard of waking up and eating in the middle of the night with no recollection. Check with the doc, until then, google and check the warning ( paper) in the packet..

I haven't taken Ambien for over a year, idk why this question popped in my head. I can't count the number of times I've woke up in the night and ate a bunch of food. However, I would normally get more of a craving to eat about 15-30 minutes after taking the Ambien. On a couple occasions my father woke up in the night to find me asleep on the kitchen floor in front of the refrigerator with the door wide open and food in my lap, and yes--that was after I had went to bed, cozy under the blankets, and at some point got up to go to the kitchen... It's not like I was munching before bed and fell asleep there. The scariest thing that happened to me on Ambien was that I woke one morning to find a receipt dated at 3:30AM... Apparently I had got up, driven my car on a major highway, went to the store and bought a few things, then came home and went to bed. I'd have never even known if I hadn't noticed that receipt. My God---I could have killed someone, myself, or both!! From then on, each night before taking my Ambien, i'd give my car keys to my mother to assure I didn't drive under the influence again.

It is your own brain sending wrong signal,it knows your tired two ways to fix it.Food =energy to get your body working a way of solving problem, or sleep to rest you to get more energy. It is doing it's job.Like during day when you know you just have ate,but are still wanting food .Try taking a nap first:)
