How can I get a 6 year old to stop grinding their teeth while they sleep

Report as

My daughter did it when she was younger and is now 16 and already has arthritis in her jaw. Her jaw pops alot also. She's already had braces, that didnt help. The cheapest thing we have found that helps is to buy a mouth guard at like academy or Walmart. Their like .97 and it's for the upper teeth. U boil it and fit it to ur teeth. There's instructions on the package. I wished someone had told us about this years ago.

A retainer will help though it may take a while for her/him to get use to.The child has to have to wear it ALL night.

Bruxism is the clinical name for teeth grinding. It is the act of consciously or unconsciously compressing either when one is awake or asleep. Some remedies for teeth grinding include sleeping on your back, taking calcium or magnesium supplements, munching on an apple before going to bed and more. My 4 yr old does the same thing!! The dentist told me it's perfectly normal for children to grind their teeth. He said they usually do it because their adult teeth are staring to come up. He said only to worry about it when they are adults. Hope that helps :)
