Cuddling a soft stuffed animal, reading a book, and going over your day in your head usually helps. I personally like to drink celestial seasonings caffeine free teas. Tension tamer is my favorite. Word is your not supposed to look at any electronics an hour prior to going to bed. This means tv, video games, etc.
When you lie down in bed to go to sleep don't think about things. Don't think about what you need to do tomorrow, or what your friend said earlier, or anything. Thoughts racing around in your head can keep you up for hours. If there's something important weighing on your mind just tell yourself there'll be a better time tomorrow to deal with it.
