How do I wean my child off of his bedtime bottle?

My son is 19 months old and the only time he gets a bottle is when it's nap time or bedtime. we have our routine of bath, pj's, grab the favorite blanket, and then he heads for the kitchen for the bottle. Some nights he falls asleep right after drinking the bottle and other nights he's awake for a while. What can I do that's going to make it easier on everyone involved?

Tell him that the "bottle fairy" has been calling and wanting to know if he is going to be through with his bottle soon. Explain that the bottle fairy needs his bottle to give to another little boy who really needs it. Reward him for giving up his bottle with a special outing (trip to the zoo or something else that he'd really like). I know I'm going to take a lot of bashing for this idea from the ones who think that Santa Claus and the like are wrong, but at his age, a little magic/fantasy is a good thing.

Try to feed him solid food and his bottle just before his bedtime. There isn't an easy way because the bottle is what gives him comfort, but hopefully the full belly will gradually make him sleep longer and longer. Sometimes you just need to let him cry.

I would put water in the bottle and juice or milk in his cup. I did not take my little ones to drop that bottle and choose the soppy cup.

With both of my kids when they turned a year old I made the bottles "disappear". I washed the bottles one morning and put them away and from that point on they only drink from a cup.

I had a hard time with this problem also. But, I substituted water for the milk. Soon she didn't want the bedtime bottle anymore!

I got my kids off before they turned a year old... It ruins their teeth. I just used a sippy cup before bed. Like with a small snack, then brush their teeth. I never let them have a drink or bottle in bed...
