so that people can focus on school. Immodest dress is distracting to others and is simply not appropriate, as 6souslim stated (in a blunt but in a basic nutshell way). Negative, racist, vulgar, or sexual slogans are offensive and not appropriate. You can express your individuality without dressing inappropriately. School is a place to learn, you should at least try to look presentable But the dress code is pretty moot since they don't really enforce it.

well in my school a lot of things happened like guys liking girls because the girls wore revealing cloths and the guys would touch the girls and makeout in the bathroom. and girls would flirt and flash guys and makeout at recess. so i would think that having a dress code helped for stuff like that wont happened.
Dress code in elementary and jr high school usually is a uniform to keep other children from making fun of other kids who don't wear brand name clothes (cool clothes) to keep them focused on school work rather than making fun other people who aren't wearing the popular stuff out there. Haven't seen high schools in my area who enforce uniforms. But decent clothing is required to keep stuff like alexa04 mentioned from happening.
Because if there were no dress codes people might dress slutty. Also to prevent kids from being bullied, because we all know some kid might wear a clown outfit or something and then since everyone has something different on it would definitely stand out and that person would be made fun of.Some people might wear clothes with cussing on it and obviously some parents don't want their kids to know those certain words. Also some kids might wear a shirt that might be really offensive to certain kids (like making fun of their race) so for these reasons schools MUST HAVE a dress code.Hope this helps.
It's so guys don't get the wrong ideas about girls. Girls shouldn't look like sluts out in public. Our school says for girls your shorts should be at your finger tips or below. Another one is your straps on your shirt has to be 2 fingers width.
dress code is to deter students from any acts of discriminations towards their fellow students on the issue of dresses a student wears...Dress code , indeed , don't respect the principle of uniqueness ..Nonetheless, it prevents young immature children from changing the school playground into a fashion ramp....
