Wes, the name of Jesus is powerful. It's not like saying Bhudda, or Allah, or Zeus or Diana....it's in the Name of Jesus & in His blood that lies the Power of God! Hence we are commanded to do all things in the Name of Jesus. Why it rubs them wrong? Because we r either for Him or against Him--there's no middle ground. And sometimes, sadly enough, they don't even realize that they are on the wrong side. But, if their god is anything other than Jesus, than they r in idolatry, and therefore His Name will provoke conviction and condemnation, which is very uncomfortable! :)
It is said that non believers are offended by the name Jesus because they don't believe in what it represents. Believers believe that the name has supreme power and there is none like it. This view may sound radical and unbelievable to them and that way they are offended.
A lot of folks feel that they can control every part of their given life. Now Jesus is the fullness of God and is the only way to be accepted by Him. The Holy Scripture (bible) is what guides us, it is foolishness to them, so blindness comes.
"Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other name" Philippians 2:9 " Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:2
Because of the fact that when I hear it I think of people who mock people for having different religions with no proof of their own and it sickens me. I find that horrible and truly rude almost like people forget about their religion and how Jesus was super kind and should influence people or however that goes.
I am an atheist and I do not find the name of Jesus annoying, or offensive. I actually get a kick out of that people actually believe it. They have no knowledge, or at least 90% have no idea where their religion even came from and how it developed. They know no real history of their belief in Jesus, plus they don't even know the correct translation of his name into English, and it's not Jesus. Jesus is a name used meaning praise Zeus J-Zeus. Oh and he is nowhere called Emanuel. He was just a guy that preached too much (if he even existed at all) and got in trouble with the roman authorities. Your religious holy book has a shaded history, most of it was written by unknown authors and is no where as old as claimed. So not offensive, just comical. And no I do not fear the name or the god Jesus.
