Why is the name Jesus so offensive to nonbelievers?

I'm not offended when I hear names of other gods.

Report as

Wes, the name of Jesus is powerful. It's not like saying Bhudda, or Allah, or Zeus or Diana....it's in the Name of Jesus & in His blood that lies the Power of God! Hence we are commanded to do all things in the Name of Jesus. Why it rubs them wrong? Because we r either for Him or against Him--there's no middle ground. And sometimes, sadly enough, they don't even realize that they are on the wrong side. But, if their god is anything other than Jesus, than they r in idolatry, and therefore His Name will provoke conviction and condemnation, which is very uncomfortable! :)

Hahahahahahaha, that's funny. No, we just get tired of hearing you nut bags talk about it, it seems like its all you do. Are you telling me you wouldn't be annoyed by someone talking nonstop about their car or pony, it's just annoying, my skin doesn't burn when I hear his name. I swear, you guys are hilarious.
Report as
Maybe ur skin doesn't burn, but your bitterness is apparent daily, even over ask.
But no hard feelings--even Jesus had a Judas, and even He had a Doubting Thomas. Realize it or not, you are simply fulfilling the prophecy by Jesus Himself, that we would be "reviled for His Name's sake"

Every onslaught on ask by you or any other, simply reinforces what the Bible has to say about the subject, and therefore increases my faith. I Thank you. :)

Ohhh yeah, always good.

Okay, first of all you have no proof your religion is true, second of all that was very rude, third Jesus' mother had 7 kids before him, forth turning down religions is WRONG, finally respecting religion is kind unlike that comment.
Report as
Smarty, you'll have to pardon me for not casting my pearls....

The only proof i need is that When i pray, God answers. Truth usually does have two edges--if it slices those that dont believe it, hey, thats what it does.

Rude? Lol...no, but truth does tend to annoy those who resist it. But now i must Thank you Also for proving the words of JESUS true. He did warm that in the last days there would be Many mockers & scorners, and that we'd be ridiculed for His sake.

For u, its a way to express your bitterness. For me, its yet another affirmation that what is written in the Bible comes to pass!
Report as
All i'm saying people should respect all religions. I'm not one to get into arguments but what the hell.
Report as
" god answers" what does he talk to you?
Report as
Sometimes He does. You should try it!

Respecting religin is a clich made by modern society. But im not worried about being Politically Correct When its an issue of Heaven & hell. Im a whole lot More concerned with being BIBLICALLY correct!
Report as
Do you understand what I'm saying?

Which part?
Report as
Wow!!! Thumbs up great answer
Report as
*sighs* if everyone said there religion was correct then made fun of others the world would be full of religion wars. Write down a paragraph about Jesus then change the name to another. You'll see that no matter what religion the feelings are the same.
Report as
Feelings are deceptive. The world does actually have several "religious wars" ongoing, and has had them since day one. But where you need a bit more understanding is that Only one religion is true. This goes against today's modern views of " tolerate everyone" and "All roads lead to HEaven" To quote JESUS HImself, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it." (Matt 7:13-14)

Contrary to to common belief that the majority of religions are ok, etc, Jesus made it plain that there wilol be more people lost than saved. That's why Paul warned us in Colossians 2:8 to "beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

Jeremiah added HIs thoughts in Jer 17:9 " The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?"

Finally, although there are several other scriptures running through myt head ( like "Let GOD be true, and every man a liar" and "Order my steps in YOur Word"
I will simply close with a retort that is one of my favorite; humorous yet true. All Roads lead to Rome? Ok, get on I-70 and I'll meet you there!

lol... some things you just have to listen to the ONE Who made the game rules-- He wrote them ion HIs manual. and you cant change them by believing something else hard enough.

Hm... Let's count the bible's errors shall we? Theres the evolution factor. The fact that this is the only universe not any others. The messiah was supposed to be born on December 24th but Jesus was born in the summer.Mary was not a virgin she had other kids. And just for reference Moses was talked to through a tree.

It's not offensive, it just gets annoying after hearing it several times in the same sentence.

Why?
Report as
For me it's because I find people who only believe in one thing tell off other religion
Report as
Qtkenna, write a few sentences about what Jesus means to a believer. Now replace "Jesus" with "Flying Spaghetti Monster". Read it over picturing someone saying that as their own honest beliefs.

Lol

It is said that non believers are offended by the name Jesus because they don't believe in what it represents. Believers believe that the name has supreme power and there is none like it. This view may sound radical and unbelievable to them and that way they are offended.

A lot of folks feel that they can control every part of their given life. Now Jesus is the fullness of God and is the only way to be accepted by Him. The Holy Scripture (bible) is what guides us, it is foolishness to them, so blindness comes.

It's not, I don't find it offensive at all. What I find offensive is telling everyone they are going to hell. Other than that, believe whatever nonsense makes you happy.

Whoever told you that you're automatically going to hell either failed to include God's forgiveness or you chose to overlook it.

You can't say someone is cruel if they offer you a million dollars and you decide not to take it...

Same with God--you can't say He is terrible when He offered you His Son's LIFE and an eternity in paradise. If You deny Him, the decision is on you; He's already given you everything.

You have to humble yourself and admit you've done wrong and need a savior before ever accepting God.

Just remember there is always His forgiveness.

Because of the fact that when I hear it I think of people who mock people for having different religions with no proof of their own and it sickens me. I find that horrible and truly rude almost like people forget about their religion and how Jesus was super kind and should influence people or however that goes.

Jesus was super kind and a friend of sinners! It is too bad others have ruined your idea of what His name means... Think of the good parts instead, like how he cares about the list and brokenhearted :)

I am an atheist and I do not find the name of Jesus annoying, or offensive. I actually get a kick out of that people actually believe it. They have no knowledge, or at least 90% have no idea where their religion even came from and how it developed. They know no real history of their belief in Jesus, plus they don't even know the correct translation of his name into English, and it's not Jesus. Jesus is a name used meaning praise Zeus J-Zeus. Oh and he is nowhere called Emanuel. He was just a guy that preached too much (if he even existed at all) and got in trouble with the roman authorities. Your religious holy book has a shaded history, most of it was written by unknown authors and is no where as old as claimed. So not offensive, just comical. And no I do not fear the name or the god Jesus.

P.S - why is it that when non-belivers are in trouble they call out for God to help them?
Report as
I've studied and researched the bible for quite a few years, so I've gotten my information from many sources. Just a small amount of searching would surprise you as to what you will find about the history of Christianity and the bible. As far as non-believers crying out to god, I doubt it and if they did they were not atheist they were agnostic.

You are confusing religion with faith. Blessed are those who believe without seeing.

Faith goes hand in hand with religion, you cannot have religion without faith.
