The Croatoan also known as Pamlico were an Algonquian people who inhabited the islands on the outer banks of North Carolina, just south of Roanoke. An envoy or emissary sent from the colony to the Croatoan nation generated positive relations between the two distinctly different groups of people. Although this was good sign, it was all in all compulsory for the governor to return to England in search of supplies and a possible relief effort should evacuation or mass departure become a necessity.
The Croatoans were a tribe of Native Americans that lived on an island near the first settlement "Jamestown" on Roanoke Island. Their name was carved into a tree after the citizens of the island went missing, they were never found. They thought either they had died off when the others left for supplies for three months or the Croatoans kidnapped or murdered them, they never did have a good relationship.
