Puppies need lots of attention. I'm sure your puppy likes you. Spend lots of time with them, talk in a calm voice to them, find a toy that they love and play with them. They will be your best friend one day!

Well if it's a new puppy, you should just let it sniff around and get used to everything before you get all lovey-dovey with it. That is what my family did with my puppy (when he was one) and now he is as happy as can be, cuddly, licky, and very active and friendly :) But, you should also make sure it has food and water, and don't make him feel lonely because puppies need a lot of attention, and if they don't get as much attention as they want, they might start being troublemakers- like chewing up shoes and stuff like that :).
A calm voice, lots of petting & keeping his water bowl full are the MUSTS. check with your vet on amount of food needed. Many people overfeed their animals in hopes their animals will like them "best". If the vet says give them treats make sure they're good quality & clean teeth. Find a good obedience school & start young.
You should be the person who feeds your puppy, takes it for walks and plays with it. If it follows you, let it, do not scold it or else it will be scared every time it sees you. Be the source of entertainment, training, and exercise, and your puppy will love you. You could also let it sleep in your room at night; maybe in a crate at first. If you act as though your puppy is the most special dog in the world, definitely your puppy will think you are special too. You could also give them a doll or a toy to play with.
