Why do some people tie shoes up to cables and poles and stuff like that?

When I walk through my park (David Gourley park) I see a pair of shoes or two hung up on the wiring on a pull. Do they do that for a reason or is it just an unfunny joke.

Some people tie shoes up to cables and poles for fun. It's a mild antisocial behavior that happens to be most amusing. It does less damage compared to graffiti on walls.
