Mods(only): If I asked a question in a petition-like form, could it be accepted as a petition to change something here on ask? See details.

I have seen many questions about religion. Each question has lead to great disputes over different beliefs. I wish to end this senseless quarrelling by making religious questions prohibited by the ask.com community guidelines. This would benefit this website by eliminating the reason for many answers and comments filled with rudeness, profanity, slander, hatred and discrimination. I ask you to consult the other ask.com moderators and make a group decision. I hope you will make a wise decision and allow me to draft a petition, aiming only to improve this wondrous website. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

If you don't like religious discussions, don't read them. That solves your problem and those who wish to partake in those discussions can continue to enjoy themselves. What would your reaction be to a ban on mythology?

I enjoy reading and studying mythology, yes, and I am learning it was not the best username. If questions about mythology were banned, I would be confused as to why, for mythology has been set in stone as untrue and fictitious. As where religion can be debated and sensessly fought over. If your religion was ridiculed and called wrong, would you defend it, saying their beliefs were untrue and try to tell them that your belief was right, all the while they try to convince you of the same? I would assume so. Such disputes are needless for neither side will surrender and say their belief was wrong. I hope you see why I ask for such a reform, and I hope you see why I asked for only the moderators to answer.

Greg, you just joined. If you spend any time here and make a few friends, you will begin to notice that the religious questions start to affect everyone eventually in one way or another even if you ignore them.

Thank you Mother(if I may call you that, as a shorthand for your name?). I, too, know that he will soon learn of the debates that tear all of us ask members apart, regardless of if we participate in them or not.

If this petition is allowed, will you sign?

Sure, but I've been here long enough to say it won't happen. I've been over this with customer service a few times. (just yesterday in fact) It is one of the things that we "agree to disagree on" I just don't like it when my friends get all wound up over this religious crap and delete their accounts, I still wish you luck.

Thank you, and I know what you mean. I, too, believe that this proposition will not go far. But, alas, success was never reached by those who came across Defeat, and knelt in mercy of its name.

What's wrong with religious questions? Have they affected you in any way? Or do you just get offended because they say man created God and all that junk? Because it may be possible to ban them because I'm getting sick of them too! they get other religions mad because of what they say and it just causes a big argument so listen to the guy!!!

If you want to know my reasoning, read the description. If you're asking my religious standpoint, I dont think it matters. Sign the petition only if you agree that we need to end the senseless quarrelling. If you have an opposing view to my beliefs, I ask that you accept my beliefs as I accept yours, and you can see why I said "Mods(only):...". Can we agree to disagree? That is all I ask.

Sorry I got curious and forgot about the mods only part

That's fine, its happened before. I only said that because I wasn't sure if you were for, or against my cause.
Report as
Don't worry it's an open forum. The questions are for anyone.

That is true. I know I cannot prevent thee from answering thy question. I only put the "Mods only" in hopes to ward of those such as GregPage and bripdix.

Well if this petition is allowed, I'll sign! :D it's a great idea

This takes away from free speach!

Yes, it would take away to say things that you wish on this particular website. But I ask you, do you have the freedom to say profane, hateful, or inappropriate things on this particular website? No, you do not. If you wish, you may say such things elsewhere, for it is prohibited on this website. I am sure there are many websites that will allow you to say these things in particular. But if you truly believe this nation is truly uncorrupt, I envy your naivet?. Now I hope you see why I ask for this reform, and why I asked this question only for the moderators.

I agree with you...what you say is as least as important as how you say it. I is my practice to choose my words carefully and I think others should also. I also agree swaring of any kind in forums and discussiomss like these here is never ok. Having said that I still am firm limiting the discussion of reigion here takes away free speech. I think that is dangerious. peace friend.

Accept your decision to disagree with me. I also appreciate your willingness to agree to disagree. If our petition is allowed, I ask that you and all who disagree with this request not answer and/or comment on the petition for it will be counted as a signature to ratify the motion.

I totally agree with you. I have learned the hard way to scroll past anything "religious". However, there is the free speech issue, as well as my right to answer any question posted. I think "Am I pregnant?" is an obvious poll question, with no possible answer, but somehow, it's asked many times a day. I'll sign your petition if you will sign mine, which is simply for Mods to enforce guidelines we already have!

Definitely. The guidelines are set in place but are not being enforced. I will join your cause also.
Report as
Funny thing. I haven't seen my unfavorite pregnancy question lately. Maybe someone is listening. I think a lot of the "Who is God?" questions are deliberately meant to stir up controversy.
Report as
I hope that someone is listening. And I, too, believe they are asked for that reason.

Pregnant questions were banned last week (:
