Yes, it can. You can actually die from what is referred to as water poisoning.
All those companies saying sodium is unhealthy forget one important thing: the body needs salt to survive. If you drink gallons of water all at once, your body can't handle it and it also flushes out the salt.
Too much of ANYTHING is bad for you. That's why it's stupid for people to say "you can't eat this or that" because you can. You just have to moderate the amount you eat. I can eat sweets and still be healthy. Now, eating an entire pizza in one sitting is bad. Eating a couple of slices, perfectly fine.
Your body shouldn't let you drink too much. You can only fill your stomach to a certain point before you body will start to vomit it back up. So I doubt it can actually happen. Now, you could drown, but that isn't the same thing.
Yes it absolutely can. There was a news story a few years ago about that happening to a woman who was trying to win a contest to see who could drink the most water in the shortest amount of time. She died from it.
YES !!! there was a contest in my state that was for concert tickets.to see who could drink the most water. lets just say the winner went home with the tickets..but she never make it till morning.the fluids being processed through your body can only go so fast.too much water can thin the blood.too much salt will make it thick and turn against itself.

NOOOO! Your body is made of water, and needs it. the only thing that will happen, is that you will pee a lot and flush your system of any toxins you might have in your body. You need water to live., You can not die because you drink too much water. Did you die when you went swimming? The skin also absorbs water, and since you are asking the answer is NO! PS. Look it up in Biology books and do your research. Do not ask medical questions to rookies. Go to the doctor and ask him/her.
Watch out for what you read...especially of some of the comments up there. According to Svelta, you cannot die....this is not true. He needs to do some research before answering questions out of his butt. I'd rather see some people not answer than just spit stuff out in which they have no knowledge about. I am a physician and you could actually hurt yourself. If you drink alot of water in a short period...your kidneys will be "overloaded" to eliminate the water and you will create what we called "hyponatremia", which is too much water to salt balance...this can create swelling in your brain and affect your heart.
Second of all, when you have so much water in yoru body, your body will try to maintain a balance between electrolytes and volume of blood. Water will go into your cells, taken from the blood and your cells will swell. If this swelling goes to your brain, there is no room for it to go to because of your skull. This increase intracranial pressure and could kill you.
Drink in moderation...you could die...but you have to drink an excessive amount over a short period..
