the best comfort shoes for women are naturalizer, natural soul, eurostep, areosoles, lifestride, touch of nina (for dress), hot kiss. for both men and women, b.o.c., dr scholls, new balance, asics, saucony. two brands i would recommend staying away from due to poor construction and the only purpose being style not function are puma and nike. they suck. also, converse can last forever but its not exactly a comfort shoe....
Josef Seibel shoes are hand-sewm, real leather shoes made in Europe. They are a bit on the pricier side but last forever. The real leather conforms to your foot. They can be renewed, resoled, fixed, etc. Will virtually last you forever.
If do not care about being a "Big name brand" but looking for comfort and quality... Dr. Sholls. http://www.drschollsshoes.com/Shopping/Results.aspx?N=6208 I've run enough miles in school by end of college to run around the world (yes, 24,901 miles - then worked jobs on my feet all day) So, I've had them all, Redwings, Converse, Nike, Vans, Reebok, Adidas, New Balance, Puma, Brooks, Florsheim and some not famous name. In both Dress shoe and gym shoe I favor Dr. Sholls.

I had a roommate, retired from the Army, a very respectful position, 22 yrs old, gave me a pair of boots from the army, I am 60, I offer room & board, not that it matters, but adds to the story, these were a size bigger than the pair he was wearing , The boots are tall, you would think, too much tieing?, not at all, I have never had a shoe string that drew up so quickly and efficiently, and a good 8 inches to tie, snug and ready to tie, these boots are so well made, to enable the solders to quickly strap up and be on the road for miles and miles, sleep in them, and thru all kinds of brush, mud, water, you name it, these boots are preciecely made, they never hurt, they are strong, so well supportive, I can't say enough.. And they are manly, imagine, a soilders foot wear, a soilders garb, tough as all get out.... how butch can u get?, I only wear them when I go out for the evening, like only driving the car on Sunday.....I look good... I feel good in them, there special.. want to know something interesting? and funny, in a polite way, I bought goverment issued boxer underwear, they are colored brown, how funny is that? , just in case
Definitely Nike's in my opinion. But honestly look for a shoe with cushion on the bottom and some support on the sides, one that you can preferably slip in to (tie loose enough it doesn't come off but can slip on) Air Jordan's are always good too! Just gotta try and check which one you like, oh and if you're looking for shoes just to wear around casually get Jordan sandals, best investment ever.
Brooks Running shoes- I have wide feet and they are one of the only manufacturers that actually let you decide if you want a medium or wide, half, or whole size - while they are somewhat expensive at around 100 dollars a pair, they are ergonomically designed running shoes that made my avias feel like I put my feet in a cardboard box- Brooks fit, support your arch and are made to pamper your feet-
Any shoe that is made of real leather is the most comfortable to wear. Man made materials are hardest on your feet. Leather conforms to you feet and you will pay more for leather shoes but there is nothing better for your feet.
