Most subjects will help you in the future especially when it comes to choosing your career. Our careers are mostly based on the subjects that we studied in school. But, I would say that the most important subjects are mathematics and history.

why history, if your talking about the future; looking to the past is kind of counter intuative.
Report as
To see what the people in the past have done so you could either improve it or learn from there mistakes
Report as
yes i've heard that, yet I agree. I do not think that it has a big reach on our whole entire lives. Maybe in the case of nuclear weapons but thats just common sense not to use one.

its reading duh all subjects rely on it

Science for sure; right now science and tech are advancing faster every year. Plus these subjects have the potential to make mankind a truly great species and do things unimaginable now today.

For me, its Mathematics and English.

Both are beneficial for everyday living.

But you must also focus on other subjects because you also need that based on your chosen career.

A half century ago, in a little town in northern California, I took typing, and took it seriously. Of all the "I wish I'd taken..." quotes I have heard in the last two decades, "typing" is by far at the top of the list. When the computer age started, I could already type at, guessing, 80 words per minute, and was the first in my profession in our region to have a computer on my desk - most at the time still thought "secretary." Typing has helped me as much or more than any other skill learned in high school. It will give the most help, regardless of major.

Reading, Typing, Mathematics - at a minimum, because you will always be using these skills.

But most important: Critical Thinking!

However it appears in your classes, learn how to think for yourself. Learn how to distinguish fact from opinion, emotion, and deception.

For all the interactions you have in life, your most valuable will tend to be with people you =don't= get along with very well, or at all. Learning how to use Critical Thinking when dealing with these people and information in general will help you on your way.

I have to agree with Regal49. Without a good grasp of the written word and sentence structure employers find it more difficult to hire you. A resume or application that looks like it was written by a 3 year old will certainly go in the trash.

Language Arts (also known as reading or writing) because you need math in your everyday life. Even using numbers is math. Then Language Arts teaches you how to read and write and how to spell right. As Regal49 said: everyone also needs to know how to communicate better and not be socially awkward.

ENGLISH. If you cannot communicate well in written English, and you fail to interpret text accurately, you will not progress, your co-workers will ridicule your mistakes, and you will not get respect. Quite the opposite.

Part 1/4 (see comment below for the rest of this answer):

Pick the one that you feel is better for you. As you go through your classes, you'll hopefully discover something that you like. That would be the one that will 'help' you - since it interests you. Maybe you already know what you like. You may like biology. You may like math. You may like English. It depends on what you feel is the field you'd like to work in later on. Do you like business, science (biology, chemistry, biochemistry, etc.), languages (English or some foreign language), communication/writing/speaking, (journalism, for example), computers (e.g. programming), teaching (e.g. elementary school, middle school, high school), economics, accounting, landscaping, medicine, nursing, pharmacology, law, engineering (which is math-oriented), government/politics or history? There are others, of course.

Helpful (1) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (1)
Report as
Part 2/4:

You have to determine what you feel is good for you. If you want to be a business person, take economics, accounting and business classes. If you want to be a lawyer, take English and political science (and related subjects like psychology). If you want to be an engineer/math-person, focus on knowing more math. If you want to be in medicine/nursing/physical therapy/laboratory bio-sciences, focus on biology and chemistry subjects. Similar thing for psychiatrist or psychologist. There's a lot of sciences to consider actually.

Part 3/4:

If you want to be a translator, take the foreign language that you'd like to learn. If you want to be a teacher, take English and do a degree in education with courses that you'd want to teach later on (such as science, history, art, etc.). If you like computer programming or graphics, take classes in those areas. Likewise for economics or accounting. If you just want to be in alternative health like acupuncture, yoga, tai-chi or massage, well that means going to different kinds of classes or schools meant for those fields. If you're into music, continue that, whether it be instruments or singing or whatever is involved there - you could be a musician or music teacher of some kind(s). If you want to be a writer of some sort, take English, journalism, literature, and also - read books. I heard doing some travelling sometimes benefits writers too.

Part 4/4:

There are various other examples, of course. Just ask yourself what you'd feel good about doing or what would be satisfying or rewarding for you. Also, don't care if anyone puts it down or makes fun of it. In fact, avoid those people and be with positive people who are more open-minded.
Report as
Add a comment...

Today the various fields are available to select and explore the career , it depends upon your interest and knowledge. In school the Phy, Che, Bio, Maths and Computer basics are really helpful subjects for future.

Art and music will be the classes that help most to deal with the real world. You can use the benefit of tuning into your gut to plug in your "nuts and bolts" knowledge of the required subjects at school. Any class that makes you THINK will lead you where you need to learn.

Helpful (1) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (1)

I agree. I didn't get nearly enough music, art or language that brought out my creativeness in school. The only trouble is that the jobs are disappearing exponentially. The country is a mess, and I feel sorry for young people trying to make it today. It's worse now than it was during the depression of the 30's because we are thwarted at every turn by gov. regulations.

Most people here say math/english. While math/english are necessities, don't forget the humanities. I get so much more out of life because I appreciate art. music, literature, foreign languages. Most of all, learn how to think, not what to think.

Public schools teach kids what to think, not how to think. They are regimented by the hours in the day so that they will get used to working for someone else their whole entire life as little slaves.
Schools do not teach kids HOW to be creative, and that's a huge mistake.

Math and grammar are probably the two you will use almost everyday. Math for balancing your checkbook, figuring out sales prices, or adjusting a recipe to fit how many you are actually feeding. Grammar for communication. You should be able to say what you mean and mean what you say. Please remember punctuation does make a difference. For example; "Let's eat Grandma!" or "Let's eat, Grandma!" Same words, two totally different meanings!

Science and Math.. but logically, the best subject in school is not a subject at all, but social skills. Hate it or love, the world revolves around social skills. - In your future, you will see a lot of those A+ students working at burger king as a Cashier because they have zero social skills, or see those A+ students working for someone who passed school as a C- student, because they found connections and made the right, supportive friends.
