Why is my air conditioner leaking water?

After the AC runs for a while, it shuts off because the desired temp is reached, but then the basement get s about a gallon of water around the unit. What could it be?

This could be due to numerous reasons like a condensation leak, a clogged drain pipe, restricted air flow, and also a worn installation. clogged drain line or hole in drain pan due to rust

Improper venting, condensate line not put into a drain.
