Nowadays, people rarely give cash gifts in weddings and if they do, it doesn't exceed like $1000. Most people prefer to give out material gifts, which the couple will love and live to appreciate it. They also consider material gifts to be much cheaper than giving out cash.
I just got married in September and we received gifts, gift cards, cash, and checks. Looking through my gift list the smallest amount cash we received was $50. Sometimes a gift from the registry is less expensive, depends where they registered.
