You can make use of skimming devices, which is considered to be cheapest method for removing hydrocarbons, such as oil. The method can also help achieve water purity of some level. The process is also efficient, as it removes the oil before the use of chemical processes and membrane filters are put into use. The skimmers help in preventing blinding of filters, and also reduce the cost of chemicals since they reduce the oil to be processed.

RuthW...The current technology as I understand it is to heat and centrifuge the activated sludge. To show feasability, I need to be able to extract at least 4%. I need to modify my bench test. How big a factor does the pH of the sludge play, for example. In dealing with FOG ( Fat, Oil, and Grease) will the simple addition of an acid or Caustic compound assist in releasing the oil.
