My Mom has has 2 silent strokes and could happen again i dont know much about them could you tell me how deadly they really are?

Its hard knowing your Mom could be a ticking time bomb! I get the feeling that she is not telling me to full story. ____ out of 10 people die of strokes would help my understanding. Aslo if you could tell me if there is a type of sickness that makes you more prone to strokes that would help!

I have had a really big not so silent one. I was extremely fortunate to live to tell the tale with much less damage than many. I'm so sorry for your mom. I know how scary and out of control this experience is for her. There is lots of support out there for people like us. We are a big crowd. When you described this as living with a time bomb, that was well said. I think of it like a cancer that can reoccur in a second and disable me more or kill me. I long ago planned my funeral, raised my kids so they could function capably, and live each day like I could drop dead. It's kind of liberating. I initially had a tough time with depression. That's really common for stroke survivors. I had to seek therapy. That might help your mom and your family too. I'm also giving you a link to the Stroke Association. They have tons of helpful info for you and your mom.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt. She may just be trying to process all of this. It's pretty overwhelming and if she didn't have a dramatic event she may be just glossing over things a bit. Perhaps her doctor can make it more clear to her.

There are different types of silent strokes. Most of them are liked to depression and blood cell hemorrhages. The good thing about the strokes is that it can be detected by MRI's. you can go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_stroke, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-michael-j-breus/sleep-apnea_b_1342311.html and http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-apnea/news/20120201/sleep-apnea-linked-silent-strokes for more information.

High blood pressure (hypertension) can lead to strokes. She does need to take them seriously. As "off" as this may sound dying from a stroke isn't always worse then living through one. If she has a major stroke she can become so physcally impaired she will not be able to talk, or walk or feed herself. Or take care of herself in anyway.
