If teachers once had to do a lot of homework why do they give us so much?

Ultimately it's not up to the teacher, it's up to the school board that chooses the curriculum. Your just going to have to grin and bare it. It can be hard, and it's always boring as heck, but you have to do it. Push yourself.

Why don't you come on over to Mona's for some wine tonight, FG? We're all going to reminisce about how hard it was to walk six miles back and forth to school in the driving snow while carrying our brothers on our backs. It's sure to be a good time!

They know what's needed to get a good job. You won't find fast food servers giving you extra credit for homework.

The amount of homework kids have today is in no way equal to what your elders had to do. When we were kids, school was a lot harder because we were actually getting a good education. There was no such thing as a "level playing field", and the bar was set very high. Kids had to raise themselves up to the bar. Today they just lower the bar down to the dumbest kid and call it all good.

and we didn't have computers and search engines and ASK to do our homework...so there....;p

That's for certain. The only calculator we had was a pencil and a piece of paper...
Report as
Calculator....shyte...I am so old. We were allowed to use a slide ruler.

And we had to walk uphill, in the rain, without shoes, both ways... Damn kids! Mona? Pass that bottle of wine over here... Lol.. I digress... Excellent answer.. Kids can't spell, can't count back change, we lowered the bar so they wouldn't have self esteem issues, and now look what we have, a plethora (look that up, kiddies) of stupid kids who believe with their whole hearts that they are the best thing that ever happened to the world. Aaaargggh.. Mona!! What's taking that bottle so long to get over here.. You stop swigging it this instant!!!!

And bluepencil, too true... The library, my god.. We used the encyclopedia britannica to do our research papers... Lol.

I'm going over to Mona's later to reminisce some more. To all my compadres: big cheese & NAFTA--WHOOSH!--bluepencil, and dear Slip, here's to you!

The encyclopedia was good for us, because information didn't change all that fast back then. The stuff we learned in junior high was still the same in high school. Today, the only thing that stays the same is math--thank God for numbers!

WHOOSH!

It's not about how much they liked or didn't like homework. It's about their students learning.
