What is the best way to shave downstairs without getting red and rashy and itchy?

Report as

use hot water to soften the skin and it will open up your pores. Then use shaving cream shave by 1 swipe at the time then rinse shaver off with cold water because it sharpens the blade. Continue until satisfied. Then when all done put on after shave cream or rub alcohol.

You may want to use a gentle depilatory lotion vs. razor. (Less stubble - and itching later.)

Use an aftershave product such as Bikini Zone. Also, if you google "bikini bumps" you will see a link for 10 unconventional treatments for bikini bumps. I tried to post the link here, but it failed.
Well, it's not the link, but here is a synopsis of the contents:
•Clear deodorant
•Hydrocortisone cream
•Paste of turmeric powder and rose water or plain water
•Coconut oil
•Desitin ($5)
•Apple cider vinegar
•Paste of aspirin and warm water
•Strawberry and sour cream mask
•Men's aftershave, like Aveda Men After-Shave Balm ($15).
•Cucumber mash. According to Chootoo, a blend of three ice cubes, a peeled cucumber, and three tablespoons of witch hazel applied to this tender area will provide soothing results.

I use a beard trimmer or Wahl hair trimmer with the (1) on it, micro short hair and NO BUMPS! But I don't understand the necessity to shave smooth, we're adults, not 12!

Wax?

You apply a special wax to wherever you want to remove hair. Then you apply a narrow strip of cloth over the wax, then pull the strip against the direction of hair growth. It pulls the hair out by the roots. And yes, it is a bit uncomfortable, but it lasts at least a couple weeks, and leaves the area smooth as the proverbial baby's butt!
You can buy the complete setup on Amazon for $40-50--just look for GiGi MiniPro Waxing Kit. It comes with the warmer, the wax, the strips, the applicators, and an instruction book. There IS a learning curve, but I've been doing it for over 20 years, and I wouldn't do it any other way any more.
