What would cause my car to not start until I wait a few mins after turning key to on position?
I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero 6 cyl with auto transmission. When car is cold (after sitting overnight) it won't start. It cranks but refuses to start. If I turn the key to on and sit and wait anywhere from 2 - 5 mins you can then hear a sound kinda like a single click and then a "kuh thunk kuh thunk kuh thunk" Then immediatly after that a slight hum which I'm guessing is the fuel pump activating. Once these noises are heard all the dash lights come on and then car will start no problem. After the engine is running all the lights go out. Once the car is warmed up if I turn it off and then try to start again it starts up no problem every time. It only does this when the engine is cold. Any ideas as to the cause? I know it's not the battery because I just put in a brand new one yesterday and it still does it. All the fuses seem to be fine as well. I'm stumped!
