How does receiving benefits penalize me when I redeem a CD or savings bond? I get SSI, SSDI, medic-AID & medic-CARE and am unemployed.

Receiving benefits is penalized as an extra earning, and failing to cash it will generate extra costs from IRS. This is because IRS considers the benefits as an income earning. Visit http://www.sec.gov/answers/savingsbond.htm for more information on benefits and bonds.
