What makes 2005 gmc jimmy engine light go on,I was told to change gas cap. What do you suggest?

There are several reasons why the jimmy engine light of a GMC would light up such as: it could indicate an engine misfire which can potentially cause permanent damage to the engine or a malfunctioning of the power train control module if it's a late model vehicle.

If you have access to an OBD2 code scanner, it will give you more information to solve the problem. In our area, you can stop by your local parts store such as Autozone, and they will scan your on board ECM, but will not clear the trouble codes for you-and it's free!
