The record of the contractor who built the home is in the permit department of your city or county building department. All of the previous owners names are listed with the property tax appraiser/collector, the title insurance company has the historical record of any and all liens attached to the property if any. that should give you enough info to get started.

Trying to establish the home builder in such a case is almost impossible, because the information provided is inadequate. You need more information to proceed; the town might be a good start.
