Why are the buttons on mens' shirts on the opposite side to those on ladies' garments?

it's so that they can tell if it's a man's shirt or a woman's shirt. like 4 example : lets pretend i have a brother and me and my brother are the same size ( which would make me flat chested) and we both have a white dress shirt, the buttons would make sure that they don't get mixed up. btw the buttons are also opposite on pants. hope this helped! ~Sam
