Why do roosters crow

Report as

I have 2 roosters. The head rooster crows in the morning to wake up the hens for breakfast, the other younger rooster crows all day to try and get some of the hens to go with him. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And every now and then if the younger rooster has been crowing a lot, the head rooster will go closer to him and crow very loud just to remind him who's boss.

Roosters crow because they take notice of other roosters crowing, to show that a certain place in the barnyard is their turf, to try and assert their authority over another rooster, or even to gloat when a hen cackles after laying an egg.
