Woody (Woody Harrelson) and Al (Al Rosen) who died during a production season. He was later replaced by Woody. They even held a memorial on air and later could see a picture of him on the wall in the backdrop.

Woody Harrelson played Woody Boyd and the man I had mentioned earlier was named Al Rosen, but it was Nicholas Colasanto who played "Coach" Ernie Pantusso for three seasons before he died. Colasanto died in 1985, shortly after filming the season 3 episode "Cheerio, Cheers". This episode was the 59th to be produced, but was moved following Colasanto's death and shown as the 66th episode. Production was halted for three weeks. After his death, episodes were moved around - in particular the cold openings - so as to make Coach's absence less obvious.
Al Rosen ("Al") starred in the role of the third bartender unaccreditted for 74 episodes before Woody Harrelson became the final permanant third male character...

The character of "Al" (played by Al Rosen) was never a bartender, just a barfly. When Al passed away (in '89) another bar patron character "Phil" (played by Phil Perlman) become more visible. Incidently, he is the real life father of Rhea Perlman who played "Carla".
